The UGE Cable Splicer is a skilled field position in the repair of electrical underground distribution systems. The role performs cable splicing functions—either new-to-new or new-to-existing—once the cable has been placed, and then rearranges the existing cable. This position supports the Splicing team and works closely with personnel within the department.

• Splice and rearrange cable pairs.
• Open and bond cables.
• Place and ground various types of enclosures.
• Read splicing print and apply color code to print reading. Dig holes and replace the dirt when work is complete.
• Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

Minimum

• High school diploma, or equivalent.
• 3 years of experience.

Preferred

• 5 or more years of experience.

This job operates in a field environment and routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting (including in awkward positions), standing, and twisting. Work includes exposure to inclement weather such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

This position is physically active with lifting required. Candidates must be able to bend and lift, carry up to 50 pounds, maintain clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, judge distance and space relationships, possess precise hand‑eye coordination, and identify and distinguish colors.
