Job Summary
Reports to:
Assistant Superintendent of Student and Administrative Support Services.
JOB OBJECTIVES:
Operate the Transportation Department within the guidelines set in the Carroll County Transportation Policy Manual.
- Strategic Goal Area I – Student Achievement
- Ensure the safe and timely transport of students to and from school to support student learning.
- Work with school administration on discipline concerning students while being transported.
- Strategic Goal Area II – Stakeholder Engagement & Loyalty
- Promote department professionalism, employee motivation, and teamwork.
- Work with county agencies to develop and maintain safe routing conditions.
- Support school personnel by ensuring appropriate accommodations for special needs students.
- Ensure effective internal and external communication.
- Strategic Goal Area III – Efficient and Effective Organizational Processes
- Develop and supervise an efficient, cost‑effective, and safe pupil transportation system.
- Ensure appropriate maintenance of all system‑owned vehicles.
- Prepare and administer the transportation budget.
- Develop and ensure implementation of a centralized purchasing program, inventory, and surplus property disposal plan.
- Recommend purchases of large transportation equipment and vehicles.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, policies, and regulations regarding the pupil transportation program.
- Actively engage in the resolution of disciplinary matters.
- Ensure appropriate accident investigation procedures are followed.
- Maintain appropriate records.
- Ensure county vehicles are properly insured.
- Establish procedures for department operations and update handbooks/manuals appropriately.
- Ensure bus drivers are appropriately trained and certified.
- Develop and maintain an approved, innovative method for assignment of buses, drivers, and bus routes.
- Coordinate and communicate all personnel concerns, issues, and actions with the Director of Classified Staff.
- Strategic Goal Area IV – Continuous System and School Improvement
- Supervise, recruit, instruct, monitor, and evaluate all transportation personnel.
- Make appropriate personnel recommendations to the Superintendent.
- Provide training in regards to safety and job preparedness.
- Attend appropriate state-sponsored conferences and workshops.
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned.
- Adhere to the Code of Ethics for Educators in Georgia.
- Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance and timely completion of assignments.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and appropriate records and file reports promptly.
- Maintain confidentiality of information and records for students and staff.
- Communicate effectively with students, peers, administration, parents, and public.
- Exhibit pleasant behavior and project a positive image when dealing with students, peers, administration, parents, and public.
- Follow and enforce regulations concerning student conduct and discipline.
- L‑5 certification (Acceptable: AB or BS in Transportation or Business).
- 5 years administrative experience.
- 5 years job experience related to the job description.
- Alternatives to the above as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
