Position Summary
:
The Director of Fleet is responsible for the strategic oversight, operational performance, and regulatory compliance of the organization’s fleet operations. Ensures that all company vehicles and equipment are safe, cost‑efficient, well‑maintained, and aligned with organizational goals. The Director of Fleet leads fleet strategy, procurement, asset lifecycle management, maintenance programs, vendor relationships, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fleet strategy aligned with organizational goals.
- Lead, mentor, and develop fleet managers, technicians, and support staff.
- Oversee fleet budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range capital planning.
- Manage the full asset lifecycle, ensuring equipment reliability, optimal utilization, and cost‑effectiveness.
- Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime.
- Establish and enforce fleet policies, operational standards, and performance metrics.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and all state/local regulations.
- Oversee driver qualifications, training, and safety programs.
- Manage accident tracking, investigations, and corrective action plans.
- Partner with HR and Safety to ensure adherence to company driving policies.
- Negotiate and manage contracts for vehicle leasing, maintenance, repairs, fuel, and equipment.
- Develop strong relationships with external vendors and service providers.
- Monitor performance to ensure service‑level agreements are met or exceeded.
- Oversee fleet operating expenses, fuel usage, maintenance costs, and capital expenditures.
- Create regular fleet performance and financial reports for executive leadership.
- Utilize fleet management systems to monitor vehicle health, safety, and utilization.
- Ensure accurate reporting and data integrity across all fleet systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, logistics, operations management, or related field (master’s preferred).
- 7–10+ years of progressive experience in fleet management, logistics, or transportation operations.
- 3–5+ years of leadership experience overseeing multi‑site or large‑scale fleet operations.
- Strong knowledge of fleet operations, DOT regulations, maintenance processes, and equipment types.
- Proven ability to develop and execute operational strategies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team development skills.
- Strong financial acumen, budgeting, and data‑driven decision‑making abilities.
- Proficiency with fleet management systems, telematics, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
