Summary
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all maintenance activities within a manufacturing environment that produces liquid-filled products, gel packs, and cosmetic formulations. This role ensures that production equipment, utilities, and facility infrastructure are maintained in a safe, compliant, and operationally efficient condition to support continuous manufacturing operations across 3 shifts. The Maintenance Supervisor oversees a maintenance team of approximately 12 employees, manages preventive and corrective maintenance programs, and collaborates cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Safety to ensure equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, and achievement of production objectives.
ResponsibilitiesMaintenance & Equipment Reliability
- Oversee and continuously improve the preventive maintenance (PM) program for all manufacturing, packaging, utility, and facility equipment supporting three-shift operations.
- Ensure reliable operation of equipment used in liquid processing, mixing, filling, sealing, labeling, and secondary packaging operations.
- Diagnose equipment failures and coordinate timely corrective maintenance to minimize production downtime across all shifts.
- Analyze equipment performance data, maintenance records, and downtime trends to identify root causes and recommend repairs, modifications, or replacements.
- Coordinate installation, commissioning, and validation support for new or modified equipment and/or products in collaboration with Engineering and Operations.
- Directly supervise and lead a maintenance team of approximately 12 technicians and contractors, including task assignments, performance management, and skills development.
- Schedule maintenance labor and coverage across 3 shifts to align with production schedules, planned shutdowns, and emergency needs.
- Ensure maintenance staff follow established procedures, safety protocols, and good documentation practices.
- Provide training and coaching to ensure technical competency and compliance with company standards.
- Enforce compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable safety and environmental regulations.
- Support GMP requirements applicable to cosmetic, liquid, and gel-based product manufacturing.
- Ensure maintenance activities do not compromise product quality, sanitation, or contamination control.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, calibration records, and equipment documentation.
- Assist the Director of Facilities & Manufacturing Maintenance with audits, inspections, and corrective action implementation.
- Oversee purchasing of maintenance supplies, spare parts, tools, and external services.
- Manage maintenance inventory to ensure critical spare parts are available while controlling costs.
- Assist in developing and managing the maintenance budget, including capital expenditure planning.
- Evaluate vendors and contractors for maintenance services and equipment support.
- Interface with Production, Quality Control, Engineering, and Supply Chain to ensure equipment availability meets customer and production requirements.
- Work with the Director of Facilities & Manufacturing Maintenance on equipment layout, workflow optimization, and long-term maintenance strategies.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment uptime, efficiency, and safety.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical certification, trade school training, or college coursework in industrial maintenance, mechanical, electrical, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience, preferably in liquid, cosmetic, food, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or lead maintenance experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing preventive maintenance programs, troubleshooting production equipment, and supervising skilled trades personnel.
- Experience tracking labor hours, shifts, and maintenance metrics.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Familiarity with automated filling and packaging equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, moving equipment, noise, and varying temperatures.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds as required.
- Role supports a 3 shift operation and requires flexibility in scheduling.
- Some weekend work and off-shift availability are required to support production demands, maintenance shutdowns, and emergency repairs.
