Position ResponsibilitiesThe registered nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who facilitates and coordinates patient care delivery of the multidisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with physician orders.
Utilizing the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnosis based on patient condition, develops/implements a focused plan of care, and evaluates the patient response.
The RN communicates patient data to the health care team, makes recommendations for patient interventions, delegates nursing care to others as appropriate, collaborates with other health care providers to deliver exceptional patient care, and documents outcomes in the patient’s medical record.
Responsible for creating a plan of care that is sensitive to diversity, age appropriate, and individualized to the patient’s needs to facilitate wellness and healing.
Delegates interventions to health care personnel guided by the Texas Nursing Practice Act and regulatory requirements, considering each patient’s condition and the competencies of the employee to minimize patient risk while maximizing safety.
Utilizes clinical judgment, clinical inquiry, advocacy, caring practices, collaboration, and system thinking in the delivery of nursing care.
Educates patients, families, staff, and the community as a cornerstone of professional practice.
Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesDirects and coordinates nursing care, establishes priorities and delegates nursing activities according to patient needs and staff's capabilities and qualifications. Clearly communicates in a timely manner data obtained during nursing assessments, reports and interdisciplinary rounds and serves as an advocate for patients and families when communicating with other health team members. Assists team members in providing care to patients or administering direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are required.
Recognizes, appreciates, and incorporates unique differences of patient/family into an individualized plan of care. Differences may include, but are not limited to, cultural differences, spiritual beliefs, gender, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, socioeconomic status, age, and values. Delivers care in a nonjudgmental and nondiscriminatory manner. Assesses patient and family level of understanding to provide effective communication.
Creates a compassionate, supportive, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients/families and staff. Demonstrates empathy, sensitivity, and patience. Develops therapeutic relationships with patients and family and maintains appropriate boundaries. Manages both emotional and physical pain with the aim of promoting comfort and healing and preventing unnecessary suffering.
Uses strategies and available resources for problem-solving for patient/family and staff. Recognizes that resources are limited and considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and efficiency in planning and delivering patient care.
