To provide students with an attractive and safe natural environment in which to learn.

• Preferred high school diploma or G.E.D.
• Driving record that meets the requirements of the district's insurance carrier.

• One (1) year experience groundskeeper preferred

• Ability to read English.
• Ability to understand oral and written instructions.

• Maintain and care for school grounds.
• Prepare seeding or transplanting beds by cultivating soil and adding fertilizer if needed.
• Plant seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings, and shrubbery so that resulting growth will produce attractive appearance.
• Experiment with different varieties of lawn and flower seeds to determine those best suited to the soil.
• Prune trees and trim hedges to promote growth and improve appearance.
• Mow lawns with power mower.
• Connect sprinkler equipment and water lawns and flower beds.
• Inspect flowers, shrubs, and trees for evidence of insects, fungi, and other pests.
• Shovel snow from sidewalks and driveways and spread sand, salt or ashes to prevent slipping.
• Collect leaves and dispose of refuse.

• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

Lawnmowers; weed eaters; leaf blowers; other lawn care equipment; district vehicle.

Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving. Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis.

Work outside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer) and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district-wide travel.
