Position: Recreation Aide Supervisor - Sports Programs (MAC)

This is a non‑exempt, part‑time position, not to exceed 1,039 work hours in a fiscal year, working at the Multi‑Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) Facility for the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department located in Carson City, Nevada. The position performs a variety of duties to maintain and operate recreation sports programs. The position will be primarily front counter work (cash handling), taking registrations, facility supervision, paperwork as necessary, and may have a variety of other work as stated below.

Work hours will be primarily afternoon/evening shifts. (3:15pm – 8:15pm, Monday – Friday).

Responsibilities
  • Cashiering duties to include program registration and concession assistance.
  • Design and carry out plans for activity. Treat participants appropriately and use positive monitoring techniques.
  • Prepare needed supplies for activity, setting up prior to an activity and cleaning up after the activity.
  • Maintain an organized and orderly work atmosphere.
  • Assure Recreation Aides and Recreation Aide‑Leads are carrying out assigned activities.
  • Complete on the job training for Recreation Aides and Recreation Aide Leads.
  • Ensure that the facility and equipment are kept neat and orderly.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor.
  • Work with parents or public regarding concerns or complaints.
  • Provide necessary information to parents or participants as needed.
  • Complete and maintain required forms and paperwork as necessary.
  • Assisting with the creation of staff work schedules.
  • Responsible for opening or closing the program facility while overseeing the specific program.
  • Hold staff meetings or trainings as assigned by Program Supervisor.
  • Assist in setting up and accepting program registrations.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience

Graduation for High School or equivalent education and two (2) years of experience working or volunteering in a sports recreation setting and cash handling; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources. In addition, applicant must be 18 years of age at date of hire or promotion, and must possess or be able to obtain required certifications for area of employment within one (1) month of employment.

This position, along with other child care providers, are one of many groups of professionals required to report known or reasonable suspicion of abuse and/or neglect of children in their care and are considered mandated reporters as outlined in Nevada Revised Statutes.

  • Current CPR Certification.
  • Current First Aid Certification.
  • Food Handlers Permit.
  • Valid Driver's license (if driving their personal vehicle while on work hours).
  • Driver's Training.
  • Alcohol Compliance Training (21 year of age or older).
  • Officials Training if officiating a sports program.
  • Mandated Reporting:
    Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect.

Continued employment is contingent upon acquiring and maintaining these certifications.
