This recruitment is for full-time, non-exempt Deputy Sheriff 1 and Deputy Sheriff positions at the Carson City Sheriff's Office.The positions perform law enforcement and crime prevention work: enforce state and local laws and traffic regulations, perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the Sheriff's Office. The positions also preserve the peace, detaining and interviewing violators, apprehend suspects, and respond to assistance calls.
The positions can also be responsible for the care and custody of inmates in the Detention Center.
Although recreational marijuana use in Nevada Is legal, marijuana usage is illegal on a federal level. Recent use may result in a disqualification.
Deputy Sheriff 1:
- Must obtain Nevada P.O.S.T. Category I Basic Certificate and/or Nevada P.O.S.T. Category III Basic Certificate within 18 months of employment.
- Salary: $26.4180 - $27.4747 per hour; $54,949.44 - $57,147.48 annually
- Must have Nevada P.O.S.T. Category I Basic Certificate and/or Nevada P.O.S.T. Category III Basic Certificate at the time of hire.
- Salary: $31.3782 - $39.7033 per hour; $65,266.76 - $82,582.76 annually
- 14 inch vertical jump
- Illinois Agility Run (19.5 seconds or less)
- 30 sit ups (1 minute or less)
- 23 push-ups (no time limit)
- 300 meter run (68 seconds or less)
- 1.5 mile run/walk (16:57 minutes: seconds or less)

Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.
- Assists with the operation of jail facilities including court transportation, classification, booking, release, medical treatment, meals, exercise, personal hygiene, and supervision of inmates while they are incarcerated in the Carson City detention center.
- Assists and interacts with other Sheriff’s Office personnel, other City and outside law enforcement organizations and businesses in order to accomplish tasks; maintains the integrity, professionalism, attitudes, positive values and goals of the Sheriff’s Office by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed.
- Identifies, attends and or conducts training, educational programs and seminars; participates and presents preventive education and information through community and school awareness projects.
- Patrols and provides security for assigned areas looking for illegal, hazardous and suspicious activities and persons; provides scene security and protection for emergency personnel; operates Office vehicles safely, maintains and cleans Office vehicles; pursue and arrest law violators and criminals.
- Enforces local, state, and federal laws and enforces compliance with regulations and ordinances; maintains traffic enforcement through traffic stops via warnings and citations; investigates traffic accidents.
- Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service; interrogates suspects, communicates with victims, witnesses and suspects; identifies and collects evidence; completes detailed reports and paperwork using good English grammar and spelling; performs search and surveillance duties.
- Represents the Office at court hearings and testifies in court cases; serves arrest and search warrants; serves and enforces child and adult orders of protection.
1) are not disqualified from serving as a peace officer,
2) have not been discharged, disciplined or asked to resign from a law enforcement agency due to conduct which would constitute grounds for denial of certification or revoke the certificate of a peace officer or
