Multi-Purpose Clerk – Grocery (Night Crew)

Job Summary

The Multi‑Purpose Clerk – Night Crew is responsible for a variety of clerk positions, and workers are cross‑trained and internally certified for these positions on an ongoing basis. The role includes stocking grocery store shelves, pricing new items, offloading shipments, unwrapping, rotating and packing boxes on an overnight shift. Additional duties include order writing, freshness/quality code checking, item‑to‑tag integrity, reporting risks or safety issues to management, ensuring proper temperatures in cases/coolers, maintaining inventory accuracy, and operating the check stand.

The clerk maintains a clean work area that is orderly and free from safety hazards.

Responsibilities

• Receive, stock, display, price and face product.
• Break down loads including unwrapping, rotating and packing boxes.
• Write orders and ensure item‑to‑tag integrity.
• Report all risks or safety issues to management.
• Ensure proper temperature in cases and coolers.
• Maintain inventory accuracy.
• Check to a minimum on the cash register.
• Sweep and mop sales floor, front end, back rooms, and refrigerated areas.
• Know location of the MSDS binder and information about all materials used during work.
• May operate a forklift if authorized and certified.
• May operate a commercial baler if authorized to compress cardboard.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience

Minimum of three months in a relevant role or equivalent experience.

Education

High school diploma or GED required.

Other Requirements

• Availability to work a variety of retail hour shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to lift 40 lbs without assistance and may lift up to 85 lbs on occasion.
• Ability to carry up to 80 lbs on occasion.
• Ability to push up to 85 lbs and pull up to 92 lbs on occasion.
• Ability to stand, walk, squat, kneel, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, and climb on a frequent or occasional basis.
• Ability to work in temperature levels that fluctuate; required to work in cold rooms and freezer units.
• Ability to operate tools including step stool, cart, register, safety cutter, rolling ladder, food prep equipment, ovens, warmers, mixers, meat cutting instruments, pallet jacks, packaging components, and cleaning supplies.
