Chicano/Chicana Studies

College of Arts and Humanities

Position Description

The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), invites highly qualified, motivated, and well-organized applicants for a pool of part-time teaching appointments.

At CSUDH, we celebrate and respect diversity within race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, members of the LGBTQ+ community, people with varied abilities, and veterans. CSUDH is seeking applications from candidates who can demonstrate experience in teaching and working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and who can contribute to the University's mission, vision, and core values.

The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies (CHS) provides students an interdisciplinary understanding of the political, economic, historical, and cultural realities, perspectives, and experiences of Chicana/o/e and Latina/o/e populations. A Chicana/o Studies degree provides students with the critical skills and social knowledge to work and live in a society comprising heterogenous populations with varying social needs. The BA degree and minor program emphasize a theoretical and empirical foundation, preparing students to pursue diverse career tracks, graduate school, and post-baccalaureate studies and training in a variety of related fields.

The Chicana/o Studies Department sponsors an extensive co-curricular activities calendar throughout the academic year.

The department faculty collaborate with the Culture and Identity Centers, including La Casita (Latinx Cultural Resource Center), the Immigrant Justice Center, and the Queer Culture and Resource Center, to foster campus and community advocacy for anti-racist action and social justice and equity. The department also co-sponsors and supports campus-wide programs and events such as the annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration and the Latine graduation celebration.

In support of student organizations, Chicana and Chicano Studies faculty members serve as advisors and work closely with several campus Chicana/o/e and Latina/o/e student organizations.

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available.
