Position Description

The Department of Teacher Education at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), invites highly qualified, motivated, and well-organized applicants for a pool of part‑time teaching appointments.

CSUDH’s Department of Teacher Education is widely recognized not only for its relevant credential and graduate programs as well as its faculty. Teacher Education classes are taught by professors who bring practical knowledge as working educators and school leaders in some of America’s best‑performing schools, as well as a passionate commitment to improving access to quality education for every student in our urban schools.

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid‑December; the Spring term begins mid‑January and ends in mid‑May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available.

Responsibilities

Teach assigned upper division courses in the department’s curriculum or supervise student teachers and university interns and serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load. Demonstrate and employ digital tools that enhance learning in all courses; collaborate with faculty and public school partners in the development, review, and assessment; assist with promoting Teacher Education programs and recruiting students.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Required degree (MA/MS or doctorate in education or related field for teaching courses and Bachelor’s degree and appropriate credential for supervision);
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching.
  • For most credential courses and supervision courses this includes a minimum of three‑five years of PK‑12 experience with linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse students. Supervisors must hold a valid Teaching or Administrative Credential.
  • Applicants must have experience in teaching and working with colleagues from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A doctorate in education or related discipline

Employment Requirement

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

In accordance with the California State University (CSU) Out‑of‑State Employment Policy, the CSU is a state entity whose business operations reside within the State of California and prohibits hiring employees to perform CSU‑related work outside of California.

Salary and Benefit Information

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
