Position: Project Engineer – Food Plant - Temp to Perm Hire

Job Title

Food - Plant Project Engineer – Temp to Perm Hire | Carson, CA (on-site)

Compensation: Pay rate of $65 - $85 per hour, paid weekly. Eligible for potential permanent direct hire after 6 months.

Overview: Our client is a premier producer of fresh prepared foods with 18K employees at 48 sites worldwide. They operate 4 plants in the US with around 1K people. The Plant Project Engineer will manage multiple plant projects concurrently, including facilities, utilities infrastructure and high-volume refrigeration systems for food storage and processing/packaging.

Duration &

Location:

Initially 6-month contract with a chance to convert to permanent direct role. On-site at Carson, CA. Overnight travel: 5%.

Relocation: Prefer local candidates or those who can relocate on their own expense and stay long term.

Company & Team: Reports to the VP of Operations and Engineering at Corporate HQ; assigned to the CA plant and works under the Site Leader - VP Operations. The site is in a 100K sq ft building with ~350 employees. Product focus includes perishable ready-to-eat foods like hummus, sauces, burritos, and other specialty items.

Summary of Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Handle multiple plant projects concurrently, typically valued at $2 - $4 million.
  • Support facilities and utilities infrastructure, including high-volume industrial refrigeration systems (Freon-based) for food storage and for food processing/packaging systems.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Production in cross-functional teams; perform hands-on engineering work as an all-rounder.

Candidate Must Have:

  • AAS degree in a technical field.
  • Minimum 7+ years of technical experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • 3+ years of project engineering/management experience in a food plant/industry.
  • Some experience with FDA, OSHA, EPA regulations and compliance.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced plant environment.

Candidate Nice to Have:

  • BS in Engineering.
  • Knowledge of high-speed food processing & packaging.
  • Knowledge of high-volume refrigeration systems used for industrial freezers.
