The estimated base salary range for this role is $24.00 per hour. Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors.
Under the direct supervision of the Production Supervisor with moderate guidance from a Senior Production Associate of the felt value stream, a Crater is responsible for the safe assembly of wood pallets that meet the standardized requirements for use in storage, shipping, and manipulation of goods in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Operates machinery that takes in low‑grade softwood planks and nails them together according to specific patterns and standards.
- Uses various hand tooling while performing crate assembly operations efficiently in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures.
- Assembles and refurbishes wood crates/pallets used in storage, shipping, and manipulation of goods, adhering to engineered and quality standards, while inspecting finished pallets to ensure conformity to specification.
- Collect supplies for assembly; conduct inventory of tools, parts, and supplies and resupply as needed.
- Works with peers to identify product defects and report necessary nonconformances to Senior Production Associate, Supervisor, and/or Quality Inspector.
- Works with peers to perform reworks/repairs in accordance with industry best practices and/or engineering instructions.
- Works with peers to coordinate movement of assembled parts and/or products to the next step operation.
- Completes work as required to meet production and schedule requirements.
- Follows safety protocols and wears personal protective equipment as required.
- Notifies supervisor when materials need to be reordered.
- Maintains equipment and work areas; cleans and performs basic repairs as needed.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Possess basic arithmetic skills.
- Proficiency with hand power tools and machinery (hammer, wrenches, crow bars, impact drivers, pneumatic nail gun, staples guns, and electric saws).
- Full knowledge of measuring tools required; must know how to read and interpret blueprints and/or shop drawings and have a working knowledge of measuring tools (such as angle finders, tape measures, etc.).
- Communication and people skills; team player willing to learn.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment (i.e., ability to wear required PPE, work in a dusty, hot, non‑climate‑controlled environment; with stairs, frequent walking, standing and occasional lifting of material).
- Ability to work off shift hours in support of plant initiatives.
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in core production roles within 90 days of hire.

- Must be able to work in various weather and temperature conditions to include extreme heat, humidity and cold.
- High school diploma or GED (preferred).
- Minimum 1 year experience in a warehouse, construction, or wood working environment.
