The estimated base salary range for this role is $22.37 per hour. Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors.

This entry‑level position is under the direction of the Production Supervisor. A Machine Operator I (Laser) works with frequent guidance from senior personnel within established procedures within the functional area of the metals or felt value stream. The role is responsible for the safe set up and operation of production machine(s) in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Clock in and perform transactions in Shop‑Trak; provide updates on project status, material moves, and scrap for all operations.
  • Load, unload, receive, and store raw materials and supplies.
  • Prepare machines to start a production cycle, performing calibration, cleaning and other activities efficiently IAW quality standards and established safety procedures.
  • Use computer‑aided manufacturing programs to monitor, control, and adjust machine settings while operating machinery and/or equipment, according to specifications.
  • Perform periodic checks on machinery and/or equipment, troubleshoot issues that occur during shift, and maintain operator logs.
  • Complete work as required to meet production and schedule requirements.
  • Perform minor repairs and routine preventative maintenance on machines, including cleaning scrap trays and filters.
  • Assist peers and/or cross‑train on other machines/equipment as needed.
  • Work with peers to identify product defects and report non‑conformances to Supervisor and/or Quality Inspector.
  • Work with peers to coordinate movement of parts and/or products to the next step operation.
  • Follow safety protocols and wear personal protective equipment as required.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas; clean and perform basic repairs as needed.

Qualifications
  • Mechanical aptitude to operate and maintain machinery effectively.
  • Possess basic arithmetic and computer skills.
  • Comfortable using hand tooling and basic measuring equipment; tolerances are key.
  • Understand oral and written instructions with ability to learn quickly, meet deadlines, and maintain equipment.
  • Communication and people skills; team player willing to learn.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment (wear required PPE, work in dusty, hot, non‑climate‑controlled environment; stairs, frequent walking, standing, and occasional lifting of material).
  • Ability to work off‑shift hours in support of plant initiatives.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in core production roles within 90 days of hire.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (preferred).
  • Knowledge of G‑Code (may be required based on position).
Physical and Mental Demands
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Regularly stand, walk, and may sit for extended periods of time.
  • Regularly use hand‑eye coordination, grasp, manipulate, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds using mechanical equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to work in various weather and temperature conditions, including extreme heat, humidity and cold.
Work Environment
  • Office Environment – not applicable.
  • Plant Environment – manufacturing setting, subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces, cords, tools, and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; dusty/dirty conditions. PPE required (hard hats, safety glasses, earplugs, steel‑toe/composite boots, and fall protection).
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED (required).
  • Minimum of 1 year machine operating experience.
