This entry level position is under the direction of the Production Supervisor. A Machine Operator I (Laser) works with frequent guidance from senior personnel, following established procedures in the metals or felt value stream. Responsible for the safe set up and operation of production machine(s) in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.

• Clock in and perform transactions in Shop‑Trak; provide status updates on projects, material moves, and scrap for all operations.
• Load, unload, receive, and store raw materials and supplies.
• Prepare machines to start a production cycle, performing calibration, cleaning, and other activities efficiently in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures.
• Use computer‑aided manufacturing programs to monitor, control, and adjust machine settings while operating machinery and/or equipment, according to specifications.
• Perform periodic checks on machinery and/or equipment, troubleshoot issues during shift, and maintain operator logs.
• Complete work to meet production and schedule requirements.
• Perform minor repairs and routine preventative maintenance on machines, including cleaning scrap trays and filters.
• Assist peers and/or cross‑train on other machines/equipment as needed.
• Work with peers to identify product defects and report necessary nonconformances to Supervisor and/or Quality Inspector.
• Coordinate movement of parts and/or products to the next operation step.
• Follow safety protocols and wear personal protective equipment as required.
• Maintain equipment and work areas; clean and perform basic repairs as needed.

• Mechanical aptitude to operate and maintain machinery effectively.
• Basic arithmetic and computer skills.
• Comfortable using hand tooling and basic measuring equipment; tolerances are key.
• Understanding of oral and written instructions; ability to learn quickly, meet deadlines, and maintain equipment.
• Communication and people skills; team player willing to learn.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment (PPE, dusty, hot, non‑climate‑controlled environment; stairs, frequent walking, standing, occasional lifting).
• Ability to work off shift hours in support of plant initiatives.
• Must demonstrate proficiency in core production roles within 90 days of hire.
• Knowledge of G‑Code (may be required based on position).
