Job Summary

The Federal Work‑Study Student Assistant provides critical administrative and event support to the Advancement and Foundation team at Georgia Highlands College. This position will gain valuable experience in donor relations, data management, event planning, customer service skills, written communication skills, verbal communication skills and office operations, while contributing to the college's mission and strategic goals. This role is ideal for students interested in nonprofit work, fundraising, marketing, public relations, or higher education administration.

Must be a current GHC student.

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Responsibilities
  • Is responsible to understand, support, and carry out the college's mission, vision, and values and comply with mandates and regulations of government and accrediting bodies
  • Assists with donor database management and data entry (training provided)
  • Supports event preparation and logistics (e.g., donor receptions, scholarship events)
  • Drafts thank‑you letters, donor correspondence, and other communication materials
  • Assists with maintaining accurate donor records and files
  • Assists with social media scheduling, website updates, or content drafting
  • Provides general office support including answering phones, filing, scanning, and mailings
  • Participates in team meetings and special projects as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent and current GHC undergraduate student with:
  • Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) currently being met
  • Current‑Year FAFSA on file with all verifications and any other requirements complete
  • Currently enrolled at GHC (for at least six (6) credit hours in most instances) and in good academic standing
  • Some prior experience (job‑specific training will be provided)
Proposed Salary

Salary is $12 per hour, up to 19 hours per week.

  • Basic knowledge and ability to operate Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Critical thinking, decision making, problem solving within area of responsibility
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Understanding of customer service with experience
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all tasks
  • Ability to follow specific directions
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately (Professional communication and interpersonal skills)
  • Ability to work independently on a task and utilize appropriate critical thinking, decision making, and problem solving within area of responsibility
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently
