Outpatient Clerk​/Receptionist

We are looking for two enthusiastic, highly motivated, and forward‑thinking individuals to undertake the role of Outpatient Clerk / Receptionist within the ENT/Audiology Department at the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The role is based at Freeman Hospital. One position is full‑time (40 hours) and one is part‑time (22.5 hours).

Job Overview

The successful candidate will provide an effective and efficient administrative service across the organisation, ensuring a high quality of customer care. The role supports the ENT/Audiology department and works within a supportive, welcoming team, and offers the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills.

• Provide an effective and efficient out‑patient reception and administrative service across the organisation, ensuring high quality customer care.
• Develop and maintain competencies in all aspects of the role, including IT systems, out‑patients processes, and information governance.
• Assist with patient contacts and administrative duties across multiple sites:
  Freeman Hospital, Royal Victoria Infirmary, Health Innovation Neighbourhood, Newcastle Dental Hospital, Newcastle Fertility Centre, Northern Centre for Cancer Care, Northern Genetics Service, and Cramlington Manor Walks.

Essential Criteria

• NVQ Level 2 in an appropriate subject (or on pathway) or equivalent qualification/experience.

Knowledge & Experience

• Maintain and improve knowledge, skills, and competence to ensure a high standard of out‑patients service.
• Complete training in all aspects of out‑patients functions including IT systems, out‑patients processes, and information governance, either during probation or as defined.

Desirable Criteria

• Previous reception/clerical experience.
• Previous customer care experience.

Skills & Abilities

• Good literacy and numeracy skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• IT skills in Windows‑based applications.
• Responsible for own development, identifying training needs, setting personal objectives, and attending appropriate training as agreed by line manager.
