Clerk/Receptionist – Freeman Hospital

Job OverviewThe role is based in the Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery Department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and supports the Plastic Surgery Outpatient team. Working hours are 7.5 hours per day on Monday and Tuesday, with a 37.5‑hour week (Monday to Friday, 09:00‑17:00). The role requires flexibility and may be discussed prior to starting.
Key Responsibilities- Provide full reception and clerical duties for patients, relatives and carers in a pleasant, effective and efficient manner.
- Schedule appointments, coordinate patient paperwork for clinics and handle telephone queries.
- Act as the main clerk/receptionist for the Plastic Surgery Laser Suite, managing NHS and self‑pay patients and collecting payments.
- Support the wider Plastic Surgery Outpatient Department and cooperate with multidisciplinary team members.
- Maintain accurate records and support efficient administration.
- Knowledge – Understanding of confidentiality issues.
- Skills – Good IT skills (MS Office), strong written, verbal and telephone communication.
- Experience (Desirable) – Previous NHS or administration and clerical experience.
- Qualifications (Essential) – Good standard of English, GCSE or equivalent (minimum 4 GCSE A‑C including English).
- Qualifications (Desirable) – ECDL computer qualification or equivalent.
All references covering a minimum of three years employment are required. Referees must be current or previous line managers. DBS clearance will be required; costs will be deducted from the first month’s salary. If no response is received within four weeks after the closing date, the application will be considered unsuccessful.
