Job OverviewThe Specialist Engineering Supervisor – Electrical will lead the electrical maintenance team within a complex, fast‑paced hospital environment. The role ensures compliance with all safety standards, manages planned maintenance programmes, and supervises all staff and contractors involved in the care of the Trust’s electrical systems.

Position:
Specialist Engineering Supervisor – Electrical
Location:
Freeman Hospital, Newcastle
Hours:
37 hours 30 minutes per week

- Organise and assign predictive maintenance (PPM) tasks via the Estates CAFM system and follow up on actions.
- Manage day‑to‑day hand‑held devices for each crafts‑person and oversee KPIs.
- Plan and supervise reactive breakdown tasks, ensuring efficient and timely completion.
- Co‑ordinate with Estates Officers to guarantee shift coverage for all team members.
- Provide weekly updates to Estates Officers on outstanding PPMs and breakdowns.
Essential:
- Degree level, HNC/HND, or equivalent with significant post‑qualification experience in electrical engineering.
- In‑depth knowledge of complex engineering systems in a healthcare setting.
- Experience using CAFM systems and technical report writing.
- Line‑management experience, including HR aspects such as sickness and leave management.
- Understanding of H&S legislation relevant to building services in healthcare (HASAWA, PUWER, LOLER, etc.).
- Knowledge of contractual procedures and Trust Performance Financial Instruments (SFIs) related to major and minor capital projects.
- Authorised Person electrical distribution systems (HV) knowledge.
Essential:
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, able to liaise with multi‑disciplinary stakeholders.
- Capability to negotiate and implement new policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in providing technical support on‑call.
- Experience supervising multi‑trade technical teams in engineering maintenance.
- Strong technical communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Provide references covering a minimum of three years of employment.
- Must complete DBS check – the Trust covers the cost through payroll deduction.
- Candidates will be notified within four weeks of the closing date if unsuccessful.
