The Cardiothoracic Services team offers specialist treatment for a range of cardiac and respiratory conditions. Following an internal promotion, we require a highly motivated and experienced pharmacist to lead the clinical pharmacy service in adult cardiothoracic services.

- Leading and strategically developing the clinical pharmacy service to Adult Cardiothoracic Services across the Trust.
- Providing clinical pharmacy support to adult cardiac and respiratory wards and areas.
- Liaising with the board regarding safe and effective use of medicines, audit, cost‑improvement plans, and governance, including guideline production.
- Training, supporting and supervising junior staff within pharmacy and the directorate.
- Managing junior members of the board pharmacy team.

Job Description & Main Responsibilities
The pharmacy team is well‑established within the board and provides a comprehensive, high‑quality clinical pharmacy service. The day‑to‑day clinical ward commitment includes promoting medication safety and optimising medicines use, facilitating safe discharge, and meeting targets for medicines reconciliation rates. The post holder will lead pharmacy provision and service development for adult cardiothoracic services, work with multidisciplinary teams, and drive local and national priorities.
They will be responsible for:
- Managing a small team of staff and supporting their learning and development.
- Implementing Cost Improvement Programmes (CIPs) and leading clinical audit and research.
- Training foundation pharmacists and other trainees, setting objectives, and providing supervision.
- Supporting clinical boards, answering medication‑related queries, and overseeing access to medicines.
All senior pharmacists are expected to take an active role in teaching commitments and may be involved with pharmacy and medical undergraduate teaching. Late‑night and weekend dispensary services are part of the 7‑day clinical service and there is a requirement to support the rota.

Job Purpose- Organise and develop clinical pharmacy services within the agreed clinical area.
- Carry out an agreed prescribing role.
- Participate in patient services and clinical deliverables.
- Promote the safe, rational and cost‑effective use of medicines with nursing, medical staff and managers.
- Provide professional pharmacist duties, including supervision and co‑operation with colleagues.
Essential:
- M Pharm (or equivalent) degree and pre‑registration experience
- Registered Pharmacist (GPhC)
- Clinical Diploma
- Independent Prescriber
Desirable: Clinical Masters.
Knowledge & ExperienceEssential:
- Evidence of CPD
- Well‑developed clinical pharmacy knowledge across all aspects of drug use
- Knowledge of clinical audit and its role in pharmacy and medicine
- Extensive post‑registration experience in hospital pharmacy, including senior level
- Demonstrated clinical role development
- Involvement in clinical audit
Desirable:
- Specialist knowledge of the clinical area(s) or directorates involved
- Aware of pre‑registration pharmacist tutor responsibilities
- Managerial experience
Essential:
- Strong oral and written communication skills, especially in specialist clinical information
- One‑to‑one communication
- Influencing and negotiating skills
- Basic computer skills
