This role is based at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care – North Cumbria (NCCC-NC) and the Henderson Suite within Whitehaven Hospital, Carlisle, where the centre is purpose built for cancer treatment including Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy. Complementary therapies are funded by Newcastle Hospitals Charity (current funding for 3 years).
We are looking for an experienced therapist to lead the service in Cumbria and provide high quality, evidence-based complementary therapies for patients visiting the Centre.
Main duties of the job- Provide high quality, evidence-based complementary therapies for cancer patients visiting the Centre and Henderson Suite.
- Lead the service in Cumbria and manage a caseload with support from the wider team; work without supervision where appropriate.
- Assess patients and determine appropriate complementary therapy interventions, liaising with nursing/medical teams to identify suitable patients.
- Access and input into NHS patient systems to ensure continuity of care and comprehensive treatment records.
- Potential future growth to take on the role of team lead.
- Be physically able to perform duties (standing, sitting, walking with a trolley, and patient handling as part of therapy).

DetailedJob Description And Main Responsibilities
The role requires you to work independently to provide a full complementary therapy service for patients at NCCC-NC, including the following therapies:
Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Massage (including light touch), and Acupuncture. Therapies are provided at NCCC-NC and Henderson Suite, Whitehaven, so travel to both sites is required.
Deliver complementary therapies in accordance with NHS policies, infection control standards, and patient safety guidelines. Work closely with nursing and medical teams to identify patients who would benefit from the services provided. Maintain accurate patient records, consent documentation, and treatment details; communicate relevant information to the wider medical teams. Be highly organized with the ability to manage your own caseload.
There may be a future requirement to promote a team lead role. This role may be physically demanding and involve moving and handling of patients where appropriate. Promote patient education and wellbeing through holistic approaches.
Person specificationQualifications & Education
- Recognised degree qualification in one or more complementary therapies or a diploma plus degree-level experience
- Current membership of a professional body
- Extensive postgraduate experience
Knowledge & Experience
- Recent NHS or equivalent experience working with patients who have a cancer diagnosis
- Extended clinical practice with training and assessment
- Experience contributing to education/training programmes and continuing professional development
- Knowledge of relevant NHS policies; safeguarding knowledge (adult/child)
- Experience leading programmes of education and/or training
Skills & Abilities
- Effective communication with patients, carers, colleagues and the multidisciplinary team
- Good IT skills and clear report writing
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Advanced specialist training in therapy/adaptation techniques for cancer patients
