Position Summary Roessel Joy is partnering with a well-established commercial and industrial HVAC/R installation and service company on the South Shore to find a Payroll & HR Manager. This role owns weekly payroll for about 100 union employees and handles all HR administration outside of recruiting. It reports directly to the Controller. It's a great fit for a hands-on leader who knows union payroll, enjoys building efficient processes, and wants to be a trusted resource in a close-knit office.
Responsibilities
- Process weekly payroll for about 100 union employees, including union reporting, certified payrolls and benefit fund remittances
- Prepare for and support union audits
- Develop and maintain internal processes for weekly payroll reporting and payroll-related general ledger entries
- Partner with the Controller on accrued payroll expenses and quarterly payroll tax filings
- Manage onboarding and offboarding for field and office employees
- Administer employee benefits and handle insurance claims, both business and health
- Make sure the company follows federal, state and union payroll and HR requirements
- Act as the go-to resource for employee questions and help resolve personnel issues
- Maintain accurate payroll and personnel records in the company's payroll/HRIS platform
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of payroll and HR experience
- Hands-on experience processing union payroll, including union reporting, certified payrolls and union audits
- Strong comfort with technology and building internal processes
- Ability to manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and a desire to be a leader in the office
Preferred
- Construction or skilled trades industry experience
- Experience with Miter payroll
- Experience with Build Ops and/or Sage Intacct
- HR administration experience, including onboarding, insurance claims and handling personnel issues
- Understanding of basic accounting, accrued payroll expenses and quarterly payroll taxes
