Cary Youth Programs is seeking energetic, creative, and top-quality individuals at least 18 years of age who are enthusiastic about working with elementary-aged children or teens to serve as the Summer Camp Lead or Summer Camp Assistant Lead.
The Camp Lead and Assistant Camp Lead will both play a vital role in the development and implementation of diverse indoor and outdoor recreation programs for Cary’s Summer program. General responsibilities include the planning, organization, and supervision of various athletic, cultural, and recreation activities, opening and closing the facilities, and leading athletic and cultural activities.
The Summer Camp Leadership will work varying hours within the program’s running time from 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM. No evening or weekend hours will be required.
Potential camp locations include Bond Park Community Center, Mills Park Elementary, Herb Young Community Center, Green Hope Elementary School, Middle Creek Community Center, and The Hive.
This is a seasonal, non-benefited position, up to 40 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours.
This recruitment will be used to fill two vacancies, the Summer Camp Lead, and the Summer Assistant Camp Lead. Applicants may apply for and may be considered for both positions, depending on qualifications.
Please Note:
Anticipated Starting Rate for Assistant Camp Lead is $19.00/hr and Anticipated Starting Rate for Camp Lead is $20.00/hr depending upon qualifications and staff position.
- Ensure strong communication with parents on schedule changes, concerns, and disciplinary issues.
- Prepare, organize, and supervise facilitation of program activities, and develop and implement programs for diverse groups.
- Assist with program development and adherence to standards, coordinating space and resources for developmentally appropriate activities.
- Monitor and supervise various activities in multiple spaces simultaneously, providing behavior management and adjusting as needed to mitigate issues.
- Complete write‑ups and escalate problems to the Camp Lead and supervisor as needed.
- Assist with leading and supervising part‑time staff, including training, assigning, provide real‑time feedback, supervising, and evaluating part‑time staff and volunteers.
- Conduct administrative tasks such as creating and drafting reports, staff schedules, maintaining supply inventory, entering attendance, and documenting and submitting incident and accident reports.
- Ensure participants and patrons have exemplary customer service experience, assisting with personal care, mobility, communication, and other basic needs.
- Ensure camp guidelines and policies are followed.
- Mediate camper disciplinary issues and complete necessary paperwork, communicating with supervisor and full‑time inclusion staff about any needs.
- Ability to drive a town 15‑passenger vehicle or smaller.
- Serve in the absence of the Camp Lead.
- Perform other job‑related tasks as assigned.
- Lead in the development and implementation of programs to cultivate an inclusive and values driven One Cary staff culture.
- Oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the camp.
- Lead and supervise part‑time staff, including training, assigning, supervising, and evaluating part‑time staff and volunteers.
- Coach staff, and complete staff evaluations.
- Supervise the Assistant Camp Leads.
- Perform other job‑related tasks as assigned.
- General knowledge of behavior management strategies and techniques.
- General knowledge of community awareness and dynamics.
- General knowledge of basic office equipment.
- Ability to remain organized, multitask, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to stay engaged, demonstrate, and lead active and passive activities.
- Ability to plan relevant programming.
- Ability to effectively communicate with co‑workers and the public verbally and in writing.
- Ability to plan and coordinate recreational activities and events while maintaining a close attention to detail.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED.
