Position: CENTER AIDE IV- SENIOR CENTER OR HERB YOUNG- TEMP

Center Aide

We are seeking energetic and creative individuals at least 18 years of age who are enthusiastic about giving back to the community by providing exemplary customer service to citizens visiting or contacting the Senior Center or Herb Young Community Center.

As a Center Aide, you are a citizen advocate of all things Cary. You are part of our citizen support team and your passion for providing exceptional customer service contributes to our high level of customer satisfaction. Acting as the first line of response to our citizens, you will communicate in an open, helpful, and engaging tone and focus on finding the right solution with each citizen.

You will connect with our citizens to address questions and resolve issues, then work with various teams to process customer inquiries, escalate issues, and serve as an ambassador for our Senior Center or Herb Young Community Center. Work will also include handling general office duties, obtaining and dispensing accurate information concerning departmental programs and meeting the demands of various visitor needs.

This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.

This position requires a flexible schedule with daytime availability, and some weekends and evenings as needed.

Typical Tasks
  • Registers participants and processes payments for programs
  • Responds to participant inquiries (phone, email, and in-person)
  • Provides information to & conducts tours with visitors
  • Performs cancellations & refunds (free programs only)
  • Creates, follows up on, and completes 311 cases
  • Prints & uploads attendance sheets
  • Creates and displays the daily schedule
  • Submits work orders to public works
  • Signs for deliveries
  • Monitors supply inventory
  • Maintains employee board
  • Provides a warm welcome to all visitors and above and beyond customer service via in person, telephone, or email
  • Responds to in-person inquiries in a timely manner with quality service skills
  • Performs light housekeeping duties
  • Handles room reservation inquiries for private reservations, programs, and events
  • Works rentals and Special Events
  • Assists with the setup and takedown for events and programs
  • Proactively identifies facility needs and suggest solutions
  • Keeps citizens in the loop by providing Town information and materials or redirect the citizen to the appropriate staff
  • Notifies patrons of cancelations, changes or updates
  • Models personal behavior that is consistent with the Cary values and complies with Cary policies and procedures
  • Opens and/or close and secures the facility when assigned
  • Registers citizens for Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources programs, maintains citizen account records, and sell items
  • Provides town information and materials to citizens or redirects the citizen to the appropriate staff
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new temporary staff
  • Enforces Cary policies and procedures
  • Performs other job-related tasks as required.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • General knowledge of computers and related software
  • General knowledge of standard office practices and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments accurately and prior to the established deadline
  • Skill in the operation of common office equipment
  • Ability to interact with the public tactfully and constructively and provide top-notch customer service
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish productive working relationships with others
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of policies, procedures and services of the center, division and department
Minimum and

Preferred Qualifications

Education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess any of the following:

  • Some in-person customer service/guest interaction experience
  • Knowledge of computers and some Microsoft Office 365 proficiency

Physical requirements include the ability to hear and talk to communicate with the public, climb, walk unassisted, move about freely, lift moderately heavy items (up to 40 lbs.), have visual acuity, and dexterity in the hands for typing and operation of standard office equipment.
