Overview

A Middle School Science Teacher at Cary Academy is responsible for teaching, curriculum design, and student advisement within a collaborative, inquiry‑driven environment. Teachers also support extracurricular programming, promote inclusion, and contribute to the school community.

Core Responsibilities
  • Teach a standard load of classes (typically 4 sections), including curriculum design, material development, assessment, and student feedback.
  • Lead and support a group of student advisees, providing academic guidance, nurturing social‑emotional connection, and facilitating advisory programming in collaboration with a grade‑level advisor team.
  • Develop and facilitate experiential learning opportunities in support of the Center for Community Engagement.
  • Participate in community life by attending student events and sponsoring clubs and/or other student activities.
  • Engage in the school’s diversity, inclusion, and anti‑racism work in all professional responsibilities.
  • Attend and participate in all required school professional development activities across safety, equity, student learning, technology, and operations.
  • Engage authentically in self‑reflection and the Professional Growth and Renewal Program.
  • Complete all required administrative tasks and comply with all applicable regulatory requirements and school policies.
  • Use designated technology assets and collaborate with the Information Services team to research, implement, and evaluate technology resources related to position responsibilities.
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned in support of school operations and initiatives.

Educational and Professional Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in content area or related field; advanced degree preferred.
Experience: At least 3 years of full‑time teaching experience in the specified content area(s) and grade level(s). Directly related experience or a combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the above years.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Strong interpersonal skills that uphold respect, integrity, and compassion.
  • Ability to interact with students safely and developmentally appropriately.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills for multi‑priority, deadline‑oriented work.
  • Working knowledge of technology platforms (Microsoft 365 preferred).
  • Willingness to work collaboratively in a mission‑centered organization.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems without ongoing direction.
Work Schedule

Teaching faculty are scheduled to work Monday through Friday on campus. Certain duties may require temporary modification, including weekend work. Faculty are expected to be present for student assembly, team, advisory, departmental, faculty, and other employee meetings. Evening or weekend hours may occasionally result from student conferences, field trips, performances, or competitions.
