Overview

POSITION TITLE (Oracle title): TEACHER

WORKING TITLE:
Home/Hospital Teacher

LOCATION:
Crossroads II, Cary, NC

PAY GRADE:
Classroom Teacher

FLSA STATUS:
Exempt

ELIGIBILITY FOR EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT:
Yes

WORK WEEK SCHEDULE:
Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends)


POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides direct services and continuity of instruction to students who are unable to maintain regular school attendance due to medical, psychiatric impairments, or incarceration (e.g., mental health or medical hospital, rehabilitation center or day treatment facility, in an alternative placement setting, incarcerated in detention centers/jail). Assists students in completing the standard course of study curriculum or extensions of the standard course of study and to complete Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.

Services are provided in hospitals, students’ homes, or in a community setting. Consults with teachers/counselors at the students’ assigned schools to coordinate class assignments and to appropriately evaluate students’ work completion.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge of special education policies and procedures, K-12 curriculum, and physical and mental health concerns;
  • Extensive knowledge of IEP development and use of progress monitoring data to evaluate response to instruction;
  • Extensive knowledge of general and extended content curriculum standards and age appropriate developmental expectations;
  • Extensive knowledge in the design and delivery of specially designed instruction and evidence based academic and behavioral strategies;
  • Considerable knowledge in general content and extended content district content curriculum (i.e., Letterland, English Language Arts (ELA), Open Up Resources, etc.);
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
    Google Apps;
  • Critical thinking and problem–solving skills;
  • Ability to design and deliver professional learning;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to model and engage in professional learning team (PLT) structures and practices;
  • Ability to use multiple data sources for problem-solving;
  • Ability to build and sustain strong interpersonal relationships with district personnel, school personnel, students, and other stakeholders.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university;
  • Five years of experience teaching special education or related area.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in an Exceptional Children’s teaching area (not including licenses in Academically or Intellectually Gifted);
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certifications in two or more teaching areas.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides direct services and continuity of instruction to students who are unable to maintain regular school attendance due to medical, psychiatric impairments, or incarceration.
  • Assists students in completing the standard course of study curriculum and to complete IEP goals.
  • Consults with school staff at the students' assigned school in order to coordinate class assignments, provide evaluation of student’s work and progress of assignments, address any concerns or educational needs of the student, and coordinate progress report grades and report card grades.
  • Works with school staff and student’s family to ensure a smooth transition for the student when entering back into the classroom setting.
  • Attends student’s IEP meetings and serves as a collaborative team member. Attends and participates in monthly Home/Hospital team meetings.
  • Stays abreast of trends, research, and best practices for instruction by attending professional development events, utilizing social media, and communicating with other professionals within and outside the district.
