Join the Town of Cary’s Finance team and play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial operations. This position is responsible for managing and reconciling all revenue received by Cary, guaranteeing proper receipt and recording to the general ledger.

Key Responsibilities
  • Audits and analyzes all revenue received by Cary to ensure the funds received in multiple bank accounts reconcile to the general ledger; including reconciling pooled cash to batch postings and notifying departments of revenue received.
  • Prepares complex journal entries to record and correct revenue receipts.
  • Manages complex revenue spreadsheet that is used in conjunction with bank reconciliation to identify reconciling items.
  • Serves as primary contact for departments and outside agencies for any financial questions related to revenue.
  • Serves as liaison between Cary and third parties to provide account information for making payments.
  • Manages credit card merchant accounts to include analysis and posting of merchant fees, ordering devices, troubleshooting issues, serves as primary contact for credit card companies and as the Finance representative for PCI compliance.
  • Performs all audit work related to revenue.
  • Collaborates with PRCR on Rec Trac activities, including proper receipting of program revenue and check refunds as needed; recommends process improvements and system interface enhancements for Rec Trac for all financial matters; provides temporary cash funds for special events; manages revenue related to USTA transactions; provides reports to staff for Team Sideline and Plan2

    Play and verifies these agree to the ACH.
  • Runs Etix reports for ticket sales at The Cary and Cary Art Center and verifies that the ACH payment from Etix has been received by the bank.
  • Sends civil penalties to Wake County Public School System and sends quarterly payment to NC Licensing Board and Chatham County Schools.
  • Assists with Transit fare revenue entries, preparation of invoices and associated Accounts Receivable entries for transit service provided to the Town of Morrisville and Town of Apex, and other Transit journal entries as needed.
  • Manages perfect receivables process.
  • Responsible for proper handling and posting entries for all cash (including petty cash) and ensuring timely deposits.
  • Performs annual cash counts for change funds located at Cary facilities and completes annual reconciliation of funds to general ledger.
  • Responsible for bank decisioning; sends payroll positive pay to the bank, cancels checks in the bank system, and manages all questions regarding deposited checks.
  • Reconciles revenue transactions in Cash Management.
  • Counts and deposits confiscated cash for the police department.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of cash receipting and revenue procedures; general knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; general knowledge of governmental accounting principles; thorough knowledge of financial, credit card and banking systems, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook). Ability to work effectively with all levels of individuals within the organization and external agencies and vendors. Ability to work independently on complex revenue reconciliations that require attention to detail as consequence of error can be significant.
