SummaryConducts routine procedures and tests using radiology equipment to acquire patient diagnostic data. Prepares for and assists the radiologist in completion of intricate radiographic procedures including preparation and administration of contrast media and medications in accordance with state and federal regulations. Performs patient assessments and provides patient care. Evaluates the appropriateness of examination and assesses the quality of radiographic images.
Responsibilities- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all aspects of General Diagnostic Radiology and adheres to departmental protocols. Obtains RT(R) credentials and maintains active status using technical knowledge and ability to assist in troubleshooting equipment and protocols.
- Ensures patient demographic and exam data are correct, critiques and orients images, transmits QA-ed images to PACS, documents procedures in RIS, maintains image management equipment, reports issues, and uses PACS and HIS for study data.
- Conducts routine procedures and tests using radiology equipment to acquire patient diagnostic data.
- Performs work in a timely manner, acquires quality radiographic images, analyzes requests, correlates patient demographics, reviews orders and images, maintains a safe environment, and documents incidents.
- Uses RIS, CIS, PACS, SMS effectively, modifies orders, completes exams, QC’s, and transmits to PACS.
- Verifies patient identity, obtains history, ensures safety, assists patients needing extra attention, and reacts to emergencies.
- Education Requirements: Associate’s degree or completion of an accredited Radiologic Sciences Program. If degree not yet complete, may be selected contingent on completing a degree program within 90 days of hire.
- Licensure/Certification Requirements: Registered by American Registry of Radiological Sciences or registry eligible; become registered within one year from hire. Must maintain registry status and continuing education. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
- Professional Experience Requirements: No prior experience required.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Requirements: Knowledge of radiation protection and safety, general and electrical safety, infection control, TB and standard precautions.
