Our exceptional team of licensed veterinary technicians are the heart of VERG-Brooklyn. We are seeking an experienced Specialty Veterinary Technician to join our team who is compassionate, motivated, patient with clients, and loves making a difference.

What You Can Expect To Do

As a Specialty Technician on the VERG-Brooklyn team, you’ll support our boarded specialists and other technicians in providing the highest standard of care to our patients, while also educating and assisting the families who love them. This is a hands‑on position where you’ll be responsible for safe patient handling, patient monitoring while in the hospital and during sedated and anesthetic procedures, obtaining and handling samples for advanced diagnostics, and maintaining specialized equipment.

What

You Have
  • Understanding endocrine, GI, hepatic, renal, and respiratory diseases
  • Familiarity with feeding tubes, urinary catheters, and long‑term patient management
  • Familiarity of advanced procedures (CT, fluoroscopy, endoscopy [rigid, flexible]) or a willingness to learn
  • Ability to perform and interpret basic in‑house diagnostics (cytology prep, blood work, UAs)
  • Strong understanding of sterile techniques and sample handling for cultures, biopsies, cytologies, etc.
  • Venipuncture and IV catheter placement
  • Blood draw and sampling handling for advanced diagnostics (ACTH stim, LDDS, bile acids, insulin levels, thyroid testing, etc.)
  • Anesthesia and sedation monitoring
  • Medication calculations and administration (IV, IM, SQ, oral)
  • Safe handling and restraint of dogs and cats, including fractious patients
  • Competence with medical record keeping (Instinct, Smartflow)
  • Excellent communication skills with clients, team members, and veterinarians
  • Calm, organized, and proactive in a fast‑paced, high‑stress environment
  • Demonstrates strong critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities
  • Dependable with excellent follow‑through on cases, attention to detail
  • Team‑oriented – willing to help across other departments
  • An eagerness to learn new skills
Requirements
  • Credentialed veterinary technicians preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of veterinary technician experience (specialty experience strongly preferred)
  • Prior exposure to IM, anesthesia, oncology or advanced diagnostics
