Lead Azure Data Engineer & Architect – Met Life
Join the Met Life Corporate Functions Data Office, part of the Data and Analytics Organization (D&A) within GTO, to implement scalable data solutions that generate actionable insights for stakeholders across Met Life.
Key Responsibilities- Design end‑to‑end data architecture for data hubs/products, from source systems to consumer web applications and reporting solutions.
- Ingest large volumes of data from various platforms and develop high‑performance, reliable ELT code.
- Collect, store, process, and analyze large datasets to build and implement ETL processes.
- Develop reusable frameworks to reduce development effort and provide cost savings.
- Write quality code with performance optimizations at the development stage.
- Stay updated with new cloud technologies and advise on adoption.
- Collaborate with global teams to drive project delivery and recommend improvements.
- Leverage appropriate database technology based on business needs.
- Use data tools to derive insights and support decision making.
- Build and maintain scalable Data Lake, Data Warehouse, and analytics data stores both on‑prem and in the cloud.
- Utilize Azure cloud technologies to deliver PaaS‑centric solutions.
- Implement scalable solutions with dynamic scaling, throttling, and bursting for high‑volume workloads.
- Advocate modern software practices: CI/CD, automated testing, code quality standards.
- Maintain an API catalog for data services with standardization and security.
- Optimize reusable frameworks and Spark jobs for performance and cost efficiency.
- Interact with business and functional analysts to refine requirements and implement ELT solutions.
- 10+ years of overall experience with 6+ years in recent data engineering roles.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field.
- Databricks and/or Microsoft Azure certifications.
- Strong analytical skills for unstructured datasets.
- Experience in data architecture (traditional such as Oracle/SQL Server and modern such as AWS/Azure) and architecture patterns.
- Hands‑on design/build of data warehouses and analytics stores in the cloud (real‑time and batch).
- Proficiency with Spark and Python/Scala, including performance tuning.
- Experience with data ingestion and curation using Azure Data Factory, Cosmos DB, Delta Lake, and related tools.
- Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.
- Experience with Event Hub for data integrations.
- Performance tuning on Azure Synapse dedicated SQL pools and Cosmos DB.
- Quick learner, ship to production, and active in new tech adoption.
- Knowledge of Azure Dev Ops pipelines.
- Scripting experience in shell/bash/Power Shell.
- Hive database management and performance tuning.
- Experience leveraging AI/ML to automate complex workflows with low/no‑code solutions.
Hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office. Locations include Carthage, NC;
Tampa, FL;
Wilmington, DE; and New York, NY.
The expected salary range for this position is $120,000 to $158,400. This role may also be eligible for annual short‑term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
