Responsibilities

Summary:

The Substance Abuse Counselor provides inpatient treatment for a caseload of incarcerated individuals, conducts substance abuse assessments and evaluations, mental health assessments, development of a individualized substance abuse treatment plans, group therapy, individual therapy, documentation, discharge planning, transition planning and psych-educational groups using evidenced-based curriculum.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Substance Abuse Counselor facilitates and co-facilitates didactic educational presentations, group counseling, and individual counseling sessions.
  • Maintains knowledge of new developments in the field of substance abuse.
  • Ability to work with other professionally as a team.
  • The Substance Abuse Counselor completes required testing, assessment, and psychosocial history on incoming residents as required.
  • Participates in related training for substance abuse.
  • Ability to meet required timelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Graduated from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a Master's Degree.
  • Must possess (LPC), Licensed Professional Counselor or (LCSW) Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or a (PPC) Provisional Professional. Counselor, (PCSW) Provisional Clinical Social Worker, or a (LFMT) Licensed Family and Marriage Therapist license.
  • Working knowledge of substance abuse treatment.
  • Preference given to experience within a correctional setting and/or Therapeutic Treatment Modality.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings with residents and peers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
