General Description
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking a Biologist Technician – Fisheries for a seasonal contract from March 20 to September 18, 2026. The position will assist fisheries management crews with aquatic resource management activities; approximately half of the time will be spent in a laboratory/office environment. The role is based in Casper, Wyoming.

Essential Functions- The first three months focus on laboratory work: mounting, sectioning, and aging otoliths; counting fish eggs; peeling fish eye lenses; plus data entry and equipment repair.
- The last three months are variable and may include gill netting, hydroacoustic surveys, electrofishing, amphibian and reptile surveys, chemical restoration projects, data entry, and equipment maintenance.
- Assist with watercraft inspection and decontamination in cooperation with the state's invasive species program and aquatic habitat program.
- Willingness to learn and perform routine fisheries management tasks.
Preference may be given to those pursuing a career or degree in fisheries, high school graduates with fish and wildlife resource management experience, college courses in fishery/wildlife management, ichthyology, hydrology, watershed science, or related fields.
Preference may be given to those with experience mounting, sectioning, and aging otoliths, operating motorized watercraft, and/or gill netting.

Physical Working Conditions- Work independently with minimal supervision; collaborate with a small crew.
- Field work requires hiking, wading, carrying backpacks.
- Travel statewide Monday‑Friday; lodging provided; travel costs covered; field work may occur in inclement weather.

Non‑Exempt - Successful applicants must pass a background check before appointment.
- Lodging, waders, raingear, uniform, and all other necessary field equipment and expenses will be provided when in the field.
