Parks Maintenance Technician I or II - Parks
Full‑time Position – The City of Casper is hiring a full‑time Parks Maintenance Technician I or II to help care for and maintain our parks, green spaces, and public facilities. This hands‑on, outdoor position directly enhances the quality of life for residents and visitors.
Compensation and Benefits- Parks Maintenance Technician I:
Starting at $16.69 per hour - Parks Maintenance Technician II (qualified candidates):
Starting at $20.19 per hour - Outstanding benefits including retirement, paid time off, and health coverage
Incumbents are responsible for a variety of semi‑skilled labor and custodial tasks related to an assigned area within the Parks and/or Recreation Divisions. The role requires direct, outdoor customer service and routine maintenance of park infrastructure.
- Manual labor per assigned work groups: shoveling, snow blowing, snow making (Hogadon Ski Area), grounds maintenance, aeration, watering, sweeping, weeding, mowing, ladder climbing, cleaning, litter pick‑up and trash collection
- Operate light equipment and tools: mowers, lawn tractors, snow making and grooming equipment, hand tools, auto‑scrubbers, high‑pressure washers, and related equipment and vehicles
- Install, maintain, and repair landscape infrastructure such as playgrounds, planters, shelters, benches, signs, bollards, and concrete pads
- Apply fertilizers, soil amendments, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemicals used in parks/turf maintenance
- Perform light cleaning and housekeeping activities
- Perform minor irrigation repairs such as replacement of sprinkler heads
- Monitor and maintain supplies inventory and related records
- Provide general customer service and communicate with the public regarding fees, policies, rules, and general information at facilities or events within the Parks and Recreation Division
- Respond to the public, citizens, employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while maintaining a positive customer service demeanor
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level
- Customer service principles; standard safety practices and procedures; maintenance and manual tasks; proper use of basic tools and equipment; basic mathematics; cleaning techniques
- Routinely demonstrate core values; follow safety rules and procedures; work variety of shifts including weekends, nights, and holidays; safely operate, maintain, repair equipment and hand tools; perform manual tasks for prolonged periods under adverse weather; learn to work in holes, trenches, and ladders; learn to work around pesticides and chemicals; care for tools; clean‑up sites; maintain neat appearance; flexible with changing assignments;
communicate effectively verbally; follow written instructions; establish effective working relationships - Operating in a courteous, knowledgeable, and tactful manner with staff and general public; manual labor; oral and written communication sufficient to exchange or convey information and receive work direction
- High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) preferred
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Minimum of six (6) months of grounds maintenance or custodial experience preferred
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Wyoming driver’s license preferred
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Class B CDL license preferred
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Wyoming Pesticide Applicator’s License within one (1) year of hire is preferred
- For Technician II:
Minimum of two years combined experience in operation and routine maintenance of equipment in cemies/or outdoor recreation areas; possession of a valid Wyoming driver’s license; possession of Wyoming Class B CDL with applicable endorsements; possession of certification(s) in a field appropriate to the assigned area such as ISA Certified Arborist Certification, Wyoming Pesticide Applicator’s License, Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI), Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), or comparable complexity certification
