Position: Bus Driver 175-day

Hourly Range - $20.46 to $27.41

Hourly Range - $21.51 to $28.46 (proposed increase pending Board approval in July 2025)

This job posting is for eight (8) Bus Driver positions, each working 7 hours per day over 175 days.

The benefited position begins on August 26, 2025. However, successful candidates may be hired earlier as non-benefitted Substitute Bus Drivers to train (7 hours/day, 5 days/week for 6-8 weeks) and work (up to 29 hours/week) starting as early as June 2, 2025.

A $1,500 signing bonus is available, payable upon reaching specific milestones:

  • $500 after obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Air Brakes, School Bus, and Passenger Endorsements, and completing 1 month of driving after certification and start date.
  • $500 after 6 months from the benefited start date.
  • $500 after 12 months from the benefited start date.

Purpose Statement

The Bus Driver role (JC801/805/834/835) involves transporting students on scheduled routes and/or special excursions, ensuring vehicle safety, and maintaining student safety during loading, transit, and unloading.

This is a safety-sensitive position.

The position reports to the Assistant Director of Transportation Services.

Essential Functions

  • Administers first aid and medications for students with special needs to meet immediate health care needs.
  • Advises students on appropriate behavior to reinforce regulations and ensure safety.
  • Assists students and passengers with safe loading and unloading, including emergency situations.
  • Attends training and meetings to maintain skills and meet certification requirements.
  • Cleans buses' interior and exterior to maintain safety and sanitation.
  • Completes mountain driving training for safe transportation on varied terrains.
  • Conducts emergency evacuation drills to ensure preparedness and compliance.
  • Drives buses to transport students safely and punctually.
  • Communicates with staff and parents about routes, stops, and policies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of personnel and student information.
  • Obeys traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Performs basic computer operations related to transportation tasks.
  • Conducts pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Prepares reports and documentation related to bus operations.
  • Removes snow from buses to ensure safety.
  • Reports incidents or observations to appropriate personnel.
  • Responds to inquiries from students, parents, and staff.
  • Supervises students and passengers during transit to ensure safety.
  • Other Functions

    • Performs additional duties as assigned to support the work unit.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Valid Driver’s License and ability to obtain CDL with Bus, S&P, and Air Brake Endorsements, and Evidence of Insurability.
