Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: North West Leicestershire

Mathematics is a thriving, ambitious and highly successful area of the curriculum at Rochdale Sixth Form College. With over 600 students across Years 12 and 13 studying A Level Mathematics, this represents one of the college's largest curriculum areas and offers an exciting opportunity to lead a substantial and high-performing provision.

Our curriculum is deliberately broad and ambitious. Alongside A Level Mathematics, around 80 students study AS or A Level Further Mathematics, with a further 80 students studying A Level Statistics. We also offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) and GCSE Mathematics, providing pathways that enable students with different starting points and aspirations to develop their mathematical knowledge, confidence and skills.

The successful candidate will lead a talented and committed team of Mathematics teachers, working closely with the Course Leaders for Further Mathematics, Statistics and GCSE Mathematics to provide strategic direction across the wider Mathematics provision. They will have the opportunity to shape the future direction of Mathematics across the college, building on strong foundations while continuing to drive innovation, academic excellence and outstanding student outcomes.

Our ambition extends well beyond examination success. Through our established School of Maths, students are provided with extensive opportunities to deepen their thinking and prepare for the most competitive university courses and career pathways. This includes a monthly programme of guest lectures hosted within college, university visits, weekly problem-solving workshops and mathematical participation in national competitions, including the Senior Mathematical Challenge and MEI Ritangle.

These opportunities help to develop advanced mathematical thinking, support progression to highly selective destinations and nurture a vibrant mathematical community within the college.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and successful middle leader seeking a significant career step, or an established leader looking to make a major impact within an exceptional educational environment. We are looking for someone who will bring fresh thinking, ambition and strategic leadership, building on the department's considerable strengths while shaping the next phase of Mathematics at Rochdale Sixth Form College.

We are looking for someone who will:

  • Inspire students and colleagues through a passion for Mathematics and excellence in teaching
  • Lead curriculum development and innovation across a large and diverse Mathematics provision
  • Develop and support a team of talented teachers to achieve their very best
  • Champion high aspirations, ensuring students secure outstanding academic outcomes and progress to leading universities, degree apprenticeships and careers.
  • Use data intelligently to drive improvement whilst never losing sight of the individual learner.

In return, we offer:

  • A highly competitive salary, significantly above many comparable roles.
  • The opportunity to lead within one of the UK's leading sixth form colleges.
  • Exceptional professional development and leadership opportunities.
  • Highly motivated, academically ambitious students who genuinely value learning.
  • A culture of support, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Altus Education Partnership

Altus Education Partnership is a Multi Academy Trust and was established in 2017 through Rochdale Sixth Form College, an Ofsted Outstanding provider, and grew from the Trust’s desire to improve education in the borough of Rochdale as a whole.

The Trust currently comprises five academies, including ourselves. The other four academies are:

Edgar Wood Academy is an 11-16-year-old state-funded secondary school who opened their doors in September 2021. From September 2022, students at Edgar Wood Academy were the first to experience their new school building, with its modern state-of-the-art facilities.

Kingsway Park High School is an Ofsted-rated Good school with a strong track record of providing students with an excellent education. The Academy recently benefitted from a new teaching block, which opened in late 2024.

Bamford Academy is an Ofsted-rated Good primary school providing a caring and nurturing environment. It is a popular first choice for many families in the area.

Caldershaw Primary School joined the Trust on 1 July 2025. It is Ofsted Outstanding and one of the most oversubscribed primary schools in Greater Manchester.

Altus is on the cusp of further growth, with three additional schools currently considering academisation in the autumn term.

We also benefit from strong local partnerships. Most notably, and uniquely within the post-16 sector, Altus has a Memorandum of Understanding with Hopwood Hall College, coordinating curriculum and supporting seamless transition for students into post-16 education
