The School of University Arts and Sciences is seeking an instructor to teach the English/Indigenous Studies course, ENGL 202/INDG 202—Canadian Literature I:
Indigenous Voices in the Fall 2026 term.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person instruction to students in English/Indigenous Studies at the 200-level; this includes
  • examining the works of Indigenous writers from across Canada
  • examining responses to colonialism within literary works and communities
  • sharing the vitality of Indigenous writers’ cultures, imaginations, and ways of knowing with students Create and maintain a positive learning environment Provide constructive and meaningful feedback to students Evaluate student progress and achievement Ensure the alignment of course outcomes, assessments, and evaluation
  • Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of best practices for teaching and learning, including Indigenous pedagogy and teaching philosophy
  • A commitment to student success, including students with diverse backgrounds and academic needs
  • Aptitude for engaging students in a trauma-informed and wholistic manner, including sensitivity to the reconnection of cultural practice for Indigenous students
  • Strong organizational, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report, including the Calls to Action
  • Education and Experience

  • A Master’s degree in English Literature or Indigenous Studies
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level
  • Demonstrated experience living or working in Indigenous community. Candidates are encouraged to supply a reference from a member of an Indigenous community.
  • An equivalent combination of education and Indigenous cultural experience will be considered
  • Experience with Moodle (or similar) Learning Management System is an asset
  • This is a short-term, part-time (20%) position commencing August 24, 2026 and ending December 28, 2026. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Selkirk College Faculty Association Collective Agreement. The salary range is $2,709.12 to $4,341.23 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience.
