About the Role.
PlayCV is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to create opportunities that foster academic and personal growth through diverse enrichment activities and joyful play for all students. We strive to bring enrichment programs that both introduce and deepen subject matters of interest. Our intention is to foster team and individual growth while developing social interactions. All of our programs take place onsite at one of Castro Valley Unified School District’s elementary or middle schools.
RoleSummary
The Full PLAY Instructor is responsible for providing high‑quality after‑school programs for youth and their families in a structured and supportive environment. Working with a team, the instructor facilitates enrichment, recreation, educational opportunities, and fun experiences for students, including arts and crafts, outdoor games, and homework support. The position requires someone who is passionate about youth development, has experience working with elementary and/or middle school‑aged children, and possesses strong problem‑solving skills, flexibility, and punctuality.
This is a part‑time position with flexible hours and requires a Live Scan background check and evidence of a negative TB test within the last 24 months.
The instructor works with students from the last bell at the end of the school day until the latest pick‑up time of 6 p.m., every day.
Duties and Responsibilities- Ensuring the safety of our students which includes maintaining appropriate student‑to‑instructor ratios, maintaining the schedule for all students, monitoring students to ensure compliance with TFP rules and preventing accidents, cleaning, maintaining and ensuring proper use of TFP facilities and equipment, reporting and recording details of incidents, such as accidents or rule violations, to parents and TFP staff, being knowledgeable of all emergency procedures and safety guidelines and enforcing TFP rules.
- Facilitating and supporting enrichment, recreation, educational opportunities, and fun experiences for students.
- Implementing supplemental enrichment activities such as arts and crafts, outdoor games, in‑house and outsourced enrichment classes, art, homework support, and guiding student behavior, social, academic, and career development.
- Developing and refining enrichment activities such as classes, demonstrations, challenges, and just plain fun.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Team Captain/Team Coaches.
- Are creative, professional, and serious about providing meaningful after‑school opportunities for youth.
- Dedicated to nurturing the development of the whole child.
- Have strong classroom management or group management skills.
- Demonstrate initiative while keeping the needs of the students in mind.
- Are committed to constantly engaging with students throughout the day.
- Have elementary and/or middle school‑aged classroom experience or have After School and/or Summer Program experience.
- Are fair, responsible, dependable, and consistent.
- Have patience, compassion, and kindness.
- Are flexible, proactive, punctual, and able to make a commitment to work throughout the entire school year.
This is a part‑time position: 10‑25 hours per week, 12:00 or 2:00 – 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, starting immediately.
All incoming employees must submit to a Live Scan background check, and must show proof of a negative TB test within the last 24 months.
