American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Nursery position requiring CA RN licensure, NRP certification, and Mother/Baby couplet care experience.

• 13-week contract in the Nursery unit of a community hospital
• Day shift, 3x12 hours (7:00 AM-7:00 PM)
• Cares for newborns including Level I and Level II/Special Care Nursery populations, as well as Postpartum patients
• Patient ratio is 1:3 for Nursery and Mother/Baby
• Occasional on-call responsibilities
• Floating required to Mother/Baby and Postpartum units
• Every other weekend requirement, totaling approximately 7 weekend shifts over the contract
• Uses Epic charting system

• Active CA RN license required
• Current BLS and NRP certifications required
• STABLE certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience required
• Community hospital experience required
• Prior Level II or III NICU experience preferred
• Experience attending deliveries and performing neonatal resuscitation preferred
• Mother/Baby couplet care experience preferred
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Skilled in IV therapy, administration of blood and blood products, and medication administration including antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, insulin drips, Magnesium Sulfate, and Pitocin
• Experience with newborn care including circumcision assistance, cord care, discharge teaching, infant identification, metabolic screening, phototherapy, and thermoregulation
• Experience with postpartum care including Cesarean section, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, and pregnancy-induced hypertension
• Experience with pain management including post-epidural management and IV PCA use
• Two supervisor references obtained within the past year required for consideration

• Provides age-appropriate care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with consideration of developmental and psychosocial needs
• Follows baby-friendly protocols and performs bladder/Foley catheter assessments, fundus/lochia/perineum care, and episiotomy or incision care
• Performs phlebotomy and vaccine administration as part of professional responsibilities
• Accesses only the minimum patient information necessary to provide care
• Local candidates accepted at local rate within a 50-mile radius
• Returning staff must have a one-year separation before returning as a traveler
• Maximum RTO is 7 days per contract, with only one holiday request approved per contract
• Holiday coverage includes New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day
• Must complete lab work within 3-5 days of contract signing
• First-time travelers may be considered, with a minimum of 4 orientation shifts preferred for those new to Epic
