Project Manager – IT Security Projects
A state agency is seeking a Project Manager – IT Security Projects to lead and coordinate security‑related initiatives that enhance the agency’s cybersecurity posture and compliance readiness. This role supports strategic security objectives aligned with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), ensuring protection of sensitive data and the modernization of IT infrastructure.
The Project Manager will work closely with IT leadership, technical teams, and business stakeholders to plan, execute, and deliver high‑impact cybersecurity and IT projects. This is a highly collaborative role requiring strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
Base Pay Range$62.50/hr - $71.42/hr
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage security‑focused projects through all lifecycle phases — initiation, planning, execution, and closure.
- Define project scope, deliverables, timelines, and milestones in coordination with IT and security leadership.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and risks using Microsoft Project, Dev Ops, SharePoint, and Excel
. - Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure business and technical requirements align with NIST 800‑53, FISMA
, and other state/federal security standards. - Prepare project documentation, reports, and risk assessments to support decision‑making and compliance.
- Enforce IT governance and change management standards for all security‑related initiatives.
- Facilitate communication across business units, leadership, and technical teams to ensure project alignment and transparency.
- 3–5 years of experience managing IT and security‑related projects through the full lifecycle.
- Strong understanding of NIST CSF, information security principles, and risk management
. - Technical proficiency in IT system integrations, infrastructure upgrades, and application deployments.
- Skilled in using project management tools including MS Project, Dev Ops, Planner, SharePoint, and Excel
. - Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
- Prior experience in state or federal government IT projects
. - Knowledge of HIPAA, CJIS, or CDC security compliance
. - PMP certification (or actively pursuing).
