Position Summary

Southern Utah University is a comprehensive, state-supported, regional graduate and undergraduate degree-granting institution located in Cedar City, Utah. It is home to the Utah Shakespeare Festival and is surrounded by national parks, monuments, forests, and wilderness areas that draw millions of visitors annually from around the world. The university is located about 2 hours from Las Vegas and 3 hours from Salt Lake City.

The Dixie L. Leavitt School of Business is seeking applicants for an Administrative Assistant for the Military Science Department. This is a 10‑month position with a first consideration date of 11/18/2025.

Essential Functions
  • General office administrative tasks: greeting visitors, receiving and routing phone calls, ordering and managing office supplies, processing emails, handling travel requests, sorting mail, and other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for all Banner, financial, and HR related tasks in the department.
  • Take minutes at meetings and prepare agendas; schedule and manage department events.
  • Manage DoDMERBS/DODMETS: coordinate student physicals required for ROTC contracting, resolve related issues, and relay information to the Human Resources Administrator. Acquire a Military Common Access Card (CAC) by passing a background check; civilian hires may be sponsored by a military member.
  • Provide copying services for the HR administrator and other instructors; create files and filing forms for cadet records.
  • Use the Banner system to approve hourly employee timecards and supervise hourly student employees.
  • Oversee work orders and maintenance requests.
  • Maintain and update lists of students.
Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School or G.E.D.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Previous experience managing an office environment.
  • Ability to work well with others and communicate clearly.
  • Self‑motivated.
  • Experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience managing a calendar and multiple schedules.

This is a 10‑month position. Position is contingent on funding.
