POSITION: SIGN TECHNICIAN (Part - Time)
STARTING PAY: $23.30 hour (Minimum Starting Wage)
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: PART-TIME; NON-CAREER SERVICE; NON-BENEFITTED POSITION
Job SummaryPerform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties related to the preparation, manufacturing and installation of signs and warning devices. Other departmental duties as assigned. Works under the general supervision of the Iron County Engineer and under guidance from the Senior Sign Technician.
Minimum Qualifications- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- At least one (1) year of verifiable equipment operating, construction, or closely related job experience.
- Must have valid Utah Driver License
. - Must be able to perform heavy lifting up to and over 50 lbs.
- Must have and maintain a valid Utah Driver’s License.
- Attend any required training seminars when scheduled.
- Attend scheduled defensive driving courses, and UDOT Flagging school as required to obtain and maintain certification.
- Maintain compliance with Iron County Drug and Alcohol Policies and guidelines.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge: mechanical applications; road construction methods and techniques; basic computer entry and operation; work zone regulations; GPS computer systems; welding and fabricating; DOT rules and regulations.
- Skills: operating hand tools; operating heavy equipment; operating road construction machinery; basic mathematics.
- Ability: effectively communicate instructions to contractors/act as lead on projects/jobs when assigned; maintain cooperative working relationships; self-motivated; work safely and efficiently; regularly lift up to 50 pounds (occasionally more); work unsupervised and take responsibility for actions; communicate effectively with co-workers and the general public; use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations; plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities;
communicate via radio and telephone; read basic blueprints, plans and specifications; meet and deal with the public in a positive manner.
