Job DescriptionThe University of Northern Iowa's Department of Philosophy and World Religions seeks applications for a renewable term Assistant Professor of Instruction in Religious Ethics, starting in August 2026. This position is endowed through the David W. Wilson Endowment for Integrity and Excellence in the Wilson College of Business, with the specific purpose to expand ethics education across the campus, and the successful candidate will be a Wilson Ethics Fellow.
The position has a 4/4 teaching load. The Wilson Fellow will teach “Religion and Ethics” and other Applied Ethics courses, and also will have the opportunity to teach other courses in their field of study depending on the candidate's qualifications as well as departmental needs.
The Department of Philosophy and World Religions currently offers Applied Ethics courses in Technology Ethics, Business Ethics, Environmental Ethics, Bio-Medical Ethics, and Sexual Ethics. The department is interested in candidates who will share the department's commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, and to engaged service (mentoring students, serving on committees, and offering programming on campus and in the wider community). The successful candidate will work collaboratively with UNI's Wilson College of Business within the context of its new ethics education initiatives.
Required QualificationsEarned doctorate in Religious Studies or a related field at the time of appointment; and evidence of a compelling record of teaching effectiveness required.
Preferred QualificationsDemonstrated ability to teach “Religion and Ethics,” as well as other Applied Ethics courses such as “Bio-Medical Ethics” or “Ethics of Artificial Intelligence”; willingness and ability to teach additional courses in Religious Studies; and experience teaching in both face-to-face and online modalities preferred.
