Care Initiatives is now hiring a Regional Registered Dietitian to join our team. As the largest single operator of quality nursing homes in Iowa, Care Initiatives has over forty (40) skilled nursing communities, nine (9) hospice offices (and growing!), plus our own internal staffing agency. The Regional Registered Dietitian will provide excellent nutrition care to our skilled nursing facilities in a defined region. This role will work closely with the entire Regional Dietitian team to cover when a team member is out or if there is additional need for support. Ideal candidates are independent, self-directed, engaged team players with exceptional leadership skills.

Key responsibilities include:

• Mentoring the Certified Dietary Manager and working collaboratively with the Interdisciplinary Team.
• Evaluating the dietary department and the food service for regulatory compliance and quality assurance.
• Conducting kitchen sanitation audits and staff in-service for food service workers and nursing staff as appropriate.
• Leadership and participation with the weekly weight & wound meetings. Identify interventions and provide follow up.
• Maintaining clear communication with administrative team, the IDT members and the Director of Hospitality Operations via verbal and written techniques.
• Providing on-site support during annual survey.

Clinical duties include:

• Performing medical nutrition therapy to facility residents, monitoring nutritional status, and making recommendations to improve resident nutritional status.
• Screening and nutrition evaluation of all residents upon admission, quarterly, annually and as needed based on nutritional risk factors.
• Participating in the development of resident centered care plans.
• Monthly monitoring of high-risk residents including enteral or parenteral nutrition, dialysis, weight and skin issues along with any other nutrition related concerns.
• Obtaining necessary information from the medical record to determine patient's nutritional status; developing nutritional care plans.
• Interacting professionally with patient/family. Providing nutritional teaching and counseling to patient/family in making desired changes in eating habits. Assessing patient's ability to learn.
• Maintaining a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.

What it takes:

• Bachelor's degree in course work approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics
• Registered Dietitian required
• Current Iowa Dietetic License
• Previous experience in long-term care / skilled nursing setting - preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of Nutrition Care Process, and charting methods for electronic medical records preferred.
• Knowledge of regulations for such as CMS, Department of Health, etc.
