Responsibilities

The Business Development Manager is a revenue‑generating, field‑based role focused on managing and growing existing customer accounts within a assigned territory.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the primary field‑based representative of Central States, fostering strong relationships and ensuring customer success.
  • Fully responsible for acquiring and activating new accounts within the territory.
  • Develop and implement strategic sales plans by identifying target markets, prospecting new customers, and executing growth strategies to meet and exceed sales goals.
  • Actively seek, qualify, and secure new customer relationships through cold calling, field visits, referrals, and market research.
  • Establish a strong in‑person presence within the assigned region by visiting prospective customers, observing competitive activity, and discovering new business opportunities.
  • Achieve assigned territory goals, including pounds sold, customer growth targets, and year‑over‑year revenue improvement.
  • Manage and grow existing accounts, including recovering lost accounts and re‑engaging underperforming ones.
  • Develop and execute a territory plan that prioritizes high‑impact accounts, balances customer visits with strategic follow‑ups, and ensures efficient use of time and resources.
  • Lead customer training on Central States products and the Central Link platform.
  • Represent Central States at industry events, trade shows, and customer‑hosted functions.
  • Ensure customers maintain professional, up‑to‑date product displays and have access to relevant marketing materials.
  • Collaborate with internal departments—including Inside Sales, Operations, Quality, and Marketing—to resolve issues and align on territory priorities.
  • Proactively address quality concerns by conducting site visits, collaborating with the Corporate Quality Team, and guiding customers through issue resolution and warranty processes.
  • Gather and report market intelligence by monitoring competitor activity, pricing trends, customer feedback, and regional dynamics.
  • Grow our brand through active utilization of social media outlets to promote culture, values, core competencies, and products.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the CRM system.
  • Act as a strategic advisor, aligning Central States’ products and services with customer goals while consistently demonstrating the company’s core values.
Key Measures of Success
  • Achievement of assigned territory sales goals, including new business pounds sold and revenue growth targets.
  • Consistently onboarding new customers and converting qualified leads into active buying accounts.
  • Speed and completeness of the onboarding process, including timely first orders and customer setup.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking to identify new business opportunities and anticipate evolving customer needs.
  • Effective collaboration with cross‑functional sales teams to achieve territory goals.
  • Ensuring customers have up‑to‑date product displays and marketing materials.
  • Consistent high customer satisfaction scores and actionable feedback for account retention and growth.
