Float position – covers most of the Cedar Park location with occasional labs (no more than an hour drive time).

Requires a clean driving record and reliable transportation.

Summary

Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities
  • Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Properly explain in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand all physician orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% correct. Package specimens for transport.
  • Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow different procedures outlined by the specific protocol for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states).
  • Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric experience.
  • Experience with hard sticks and needles.
  • Processing skills.
  • Detail oriented and good experience.
  • Computer skills.
  • Data entry and processing abilities.
  • Ability to handle a large patient load.
