Position Summary

The Interventional Radiology Technologist is responsible for all aspects of diagnostic and interventional procedures performed in the Specials Suite. The role involves operating fluoroscopy and digital imaging devices, positioning, troubleshooting, patient care, and support for physicians during invasive procedures. Responsibilities also include charge entry, inventory management, and adherence to the ARRT Code of Ethics and St. David's Healthcare values.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Operate and position the fluoroscopy and digital imaging equipment efficiently and effectively, troubleshooting errors as they arise.
  • Pan table to accurately visualize requested or appropriate views.
  • Identify anatomical orientation on all required images and ensure proper film .
  • Provide patient care in coordination with team members, maintaining clear, effective communication regarding patient care.
  • Detect changes in patients’ physical and mental status and inform nurse/radiologist.
  • Set up the ultrasound unit for the radiologist, operating connected equipment and sending images to PACS.
  • Complete laboratory orders for specimens collected in procedures and handle them according to policy.
  • Anticipate and assist in code situations, operating related non‑imaging equipment as needed.
Demonstrate Excellence In Performing Interventional Technologist Responsibilities
  • Use of power injector with adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Perform scrub role during invasive procedures: assist physicians, anticipate and respond to the needs of the performing physician, demonstrate sterile technique, manage procedure wires and catheters, select appropriate product for each case, remove sheaths and hold pressure to achieve hemostasis, label all fluids and medications as outlined in policy.
Demonstrates Accountability for Safety Practices in Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging
  • Identify patient verbally and confirm with two patient identifiers (order or request) with patient  during first contact and prior to medication administration.
  • Perform “Procedural Pause” on all exams; verify exam/side and ensure Meditech order matches the written order.
  • Secure medications and sharps at all times; utilize eMAR for all chemicals, medications and contrast administered.
