Base pay range: $51,364.00/yr - $66,777.00/yr

This position is the full performance - Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) assigned to the Department of Veterans Affairs - Veterans Health Administration (VHA). It serves as an advanced technician for the PACT Outpatient Care Clinics covering EKGs and other tasks in the neurology - dermatology - and minor surgery clinics. DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY:
This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:
In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) - No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English to meet the requirements of this position.

GS-07 level qualifications may require one or more of the following (examples only; see listing for complete details):

• Possess at least one year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of an Intermediate Care Technician, typically in or related to this position.
• Experience recognizing life-threatening situations and acting to correct emergent situations according to established protocols.
• Experience with patient evaluations and screenings, and assisting in behavioral/psychiatric situations.
• Substitution of education for experience: one year of graduate education or internship directly related to the position at the next lower grade level.
• Combination of education and experience that meets total requirements.

• Perform ongoing patient care duties in a critical care setting under the delegated authority of supervising physicians and licensed personnel.
• Communicate effectively with supervising physicians and APPs to provide collaborative and timely patient care.
• Conduct observation-based screening and collect patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel.
• Assist in behavioral/psychiatric situations and with patients with complex or life-threatening conditions.
• Operate specialized medical equipment and provide support to central telemetry and other units as needed.
• Perform specimen collection and respond to medical emergencies as part of Rapid Response Team/Code Blue or medical transport teams.
• Perform other duties within training and competencies of the role.

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday - 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

• The work involves extended periods of heavy moving and lifting of patients; recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, and positioning.
• Must be able to lift and/or move heavy objects over 45 pounds and carry objects over 40 pounds for distances of at least 200 feet.
• Regular exposure to infection and contagious disease (Category I) with required safety precautions (gloves, gowns, masks).
• Observes and reports safety hazards; may be exposed to varied weather and hazardous substances as part of emergency responses.
