As a Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN) in the CVICU, you will be responsible for performing patient assessments, developing a plan of care, implementing and evaluating care. This position requires a 2 shifts per week commitment.
Responsibilities- Perform and document patient assessments at the time of admission.
- Create a plan of care, including discharge plans, and revise plans based on patients’ response to treatment.
- Document the outcomes of nursing interventions and patient responses.
- Provide educational materials to patients and families on care and treatments.
- Administer medications and complete treatments according to hospital policy.
- Perform venipuncture, administer and maintain IV fluids and IV medications.
- Review all new physician orders, ensure orders are carried out and documented correctly, and verify that other departments are notified of orders and services.
- Notify the Charge Nurse and/or physician of changes in patient status.
- Provide accurate and relevant patient information reports to the Charge Nurse and to the incoming shift to ensure continuity of care.
- Provide care for critically ill patients with central/invasive lines, hemodynamic pressure lines, pressure monitoring devices, temporary pacing, artificial airway/mechanical ventilation.
- Provide care for unstable cardiac patients, immediate post-op patients and potential organ or tissue donor patients.
- 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) in an acute care setting.
- Recent critical care experience – preferred.
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – preferred.
- Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License (Compact license Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- NIH Stroke Scale must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date.
- (CCRN) Critical Care Registered Nurse (Adult) must be obtained within 2 years of employment start date.
