Rehabilitation Assistant – Cedar Rapids

Job SummaryThe Rehabilitation Assistant supports the Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Team by providing direct client services, administrative assistance, and coordination with employers and counseling staff in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Key Responsibilities- Provide agency information at orientation and complete referral/application materials for job candidates.
- Schedule intake interviews, facilitate Job Seeking Skills Training (JSST), Job Club, and mock interviews.
- Conduct initial interviews, gather personal data, complete paperwork, and explain vocational rehabilitation services.
- Develop partnerships with job candidates to advance employment goals and provide behavioral coaching.
- Administer Job Seeking Skills training; contact employers, resolve issues, and conduct monthly progress reviews.
- Research occupational projections, salary expectations, labor market trends, and medical accommodations as requested.
- Accompany job candidates to interviews, provide job coaching, and monitor on‑job performance.
- Support clerical tasks: open, transfer, and close case records; process releases of information; manage social security verification; enter data into the case management system; and handle mail and shipments.
- Ensure accurate case documentation, comply with regulatory time frames (e.g., 60‑day eligibility, 90‑day plan development), and maintain a professional appearance.
- Serve as front‑desk receptionist when required, answer calls, schedule appointments, and communicate with internal and external customers.
- Participate in staff meetings, provide backup coverage for clerical team members, and support special projects as needed.
- Pass a criminal background check conducted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
- Two years full‑time experience in a human‑services field involving customer service, confidential information management, or appointment scheduling.
- Or two years full‑time experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, medical office assistant, or job coach.
- Or a combination of two years of education and full‑time experience (see points above) where thirty semester hours equals one year of full‑time work.
- Or current, continuous experience in the state executive branch with at least eighteen months of full‑time client/customer service in a clerical or administrative capacity.
