Job Summary

Join the Cedar Rapids Community School District as a Special Education Para‑Educator at Maple Grove. Under the direction of professional staff, this role supports students individually and in groups, supervises students, implements behavior management strategies, assists with health needs, prepares materials, aids mealtime and personal hygiene, and helps with transportation.

• Work individually or in group settings with students.
• Assist with supervision of students in classroom, cafeteria, halls, and other areas.
• Implement behavior management strategies.
• May include riding the bus with students.
• May include working one‑to‑one with students to complete assigned tasks.
• Student supervision required.
• Ensure student safety.
• Assist students with health assistance under guidance of nurses.
• Assist in preparation of materials used in the educational process.
• Assist students at mealtime.
• Assist students in personal hygiene areas.
• Help get students to and from bus or car.
• Other duties may be assigned, varying by building and district needs.

Frequent standing, walking, use of hands and fingers to handle objects, squatting, stooping, reaching, hand strength, bending or twisting at the neck and trunk, lifting or moving up to 50 pounds at distances up to 20 feet, and specific vision abilities including close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment while supervising students and working with computers.

The job involves quiet indoor environments as well as outdoor supervision of students. Hours typically extend beyond an 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday. The candidate will work in various areas of the classroom, standing or moving while supervising indoor and outdoor activities.
